Trout Stocking

The trout are coming from Northern Nebraska and are in much better shape that the Arkansas or Missouri hatcheries. The fish are not stressed and are in excellant shape. I discussed this issue this week with ODWC staff who oversee one of the stocking sites. He is pleased with the product except he can't catch any but I am working on that with him.

Have any of these stocked trout developed self-sustaining populations anywhere in OK, or do the summers and fishing pressure do them in? Or are they sterilized?

We don't have enough good water at Lugert to stock any this year; looks like a stagnant pond full of alge.

Yes, we have reproduction in the Lower Mountain Fork River. This was confirmed a few years ago.

I have caught those little wild guys, problem is they probably get ate when they get big enough.

This is correct!

Also, there have been a few small bows caught on the LIR that would suggest there is some small scale reproduction going on there as well. It's not enough for anything to be confirmed yet, but hopefully we will get the adequate minimum flows in the future to help it happen on a regular basis.
