Wife and I are interested in adding pemmican to our supplies but are afraid to make a big batch and not like it. Has anyone ever made pemmican? How does it taste? Do you know where I can buy a small amount to taste?

I can’t imagine not being able to buy some on the internet ie Amazon etc…. Order a can and see what you think!
I don't think you can buy canned pemmican. I think you're thinking of corned beef hash, lol
You can make it though.
Some places have it premade in bars and pails (in a plastic bag), so yeah you can find it on the net.

I imagine it would be a lot like these but drier and not as good, I.love epic bars for a quick snack on the go Bison Bars, Uncured Bacon & Cranberry

I wouldn't add it to long term preparation tho, better to have a freezer of meat and a generator. but knowing how to make it might Be useful in TEOTWAWKI when we are drying deer Jerky and Smilax root in the sun on the former passing lane of I-35

When I was a kid we usually got a few "fruit cakes" on the holidays,,,
I was the only one in my family who liked the stuff.

I would cut it into small bars wrapped in waxed paper,,,
They were my "play all day outside" food,,,
I pretended that it was Pemmican.

Real pemmican is basically animal fat and dried/powdered meat,,,
It has enough fat and protein in it to sustain life,,,
But it tastes like eating lard.

The old timers in Michigan who made the stuff told me,,,
That adding fruit pieces did make it taste better,,,
But affected its long-term viability.
