I don't know the ins and outs of it, but my understanding is that Kodak isn't going to be making pharmaceuticals, they'll just be making the precursors that the pharmaceutical companies will use to make the drugs. Kodak was, essentially, a chemical company, so they are well-suited for the task, and (again, this is my understanding, not necessarily a fact) they will be doing something that nobody else in the country is doing.

Now, why they "need" Uncle Sugar to make the loans instead of getting private financing, I don't know. See my signature block for more on that...
Kodak made some incredibly bad business moves when the digital age came about that they help develop and ignored.
I agree they were set up to actually be in this business to produce chemicals to produce drugs with this LOAN that has to be paid back.
I can't understand the opposition to this with the liberals on this forum posting opposition and are against the government helping to remove production from China and move it to the US that past administrations put in place?
We need critical infrastructure to remain in the US even if it costs us a few bucks so this disaster of trade wars doesn't continue and the supply chain doesn't require 9000 miles to deliver product.
The past Administration of biden and obummer cause some of this, and Bush II isn't innocent.
How about bidens son! Sure got a lot of money from daddy.

Yes indeed, that's why the U.S. government also just gave almost $300 million to Fujifilm for the same thing (That's over a Billion $$ to film companies to shift to Pharmaceutical ingredients). I get the chemical connection.

Here's the deal though, the new division of Kodak is supposed to be for what they call "APIs" or active pharmaceutical ingredients. The U.S. is home to 28% of the companies in the world that make APIs already. In 2019 the U.S. was home to over 500 facilities that make APIs. More than China.

I can't believe that none of the 500+ companies already in existence and currently making APIs wasn't a good candidate for expansion. I can't believe the free market wouldn't fund said expansion....or maybe the free market took a look at it and decided it wasn't needed.

The Cato link I posted earlier dives into all that.

LOL to anyone who says opposition to this is lib thinking. Tired old hat for someone who can't make a rational, consistent argument to save his life LOL. Libs love big government. Libs love government getting their fingers in everyone's pie. Libs hate the free market. This is a liberal move. Fund the means of production and control it through loan conditions....sabotage the free market, pick winners and losers. Tax one segment to fund gifts for another segment.

That's my big concern--if it's such a great idea, why can't they get funding in the private market? This isn't like '08 when the credit markets were frozen and it was all but impossible to get funding or credit; if this was a great idea, somebody would've been on it like a duck on a junebug.

I missed that, I'll have to go back and look at it.

This loan may not be full-on socialism, insofar as the gov't does not actually own the means of production, but, as the good book says, the borrower is slave to the lender, so it's gotta be somewhere in the 85-90% socialism ballpark. It's a sad statement on the current state of affairs when we can't recognize actual conservative positions when they're taken.

Probably because private financing makes more money keeping the status quo of using slave labor in China.

It is really simple to figure out, our Government funded it because we have private capital actively working to destroy America.
