Money no object : March X hands down.

http://www.deon.co.jp/march/March-X.htm

Yes, they have 80X, not that you'll ever "use" it - but you'll never need a spotting scope either.

It's considered "the best" benchrest/long range/i-sold-my-kidney scope - period.
Don't get me wrong, S&B, NF, Zeiss etc are great scopes - just not in the same category as March X. 10:1 zoom - nuff said.

You don't hear about these - mostly, because money is always an object.

My option cost $12,000, so it is better than your option. :thumb:

Doesn't look like the March scopes are too far off the price of the S&B/USO/Zeiss offerings all things considered.

I'm kind of digging this FFP model.

They do have some nice options!

(yes i realize these are the Austrailian prices, but the USD is currently running about 1 to 1 with Oz.)

I prefer FFP myself. However, I'm not a huge fan of the high magnification which seems to be the companies biggest selling point. My favorite range so far has been 4-16x. On the higher end 5-25x isn't bad, but it seems like mirage can start getting bad after 20x. For me anyhow. YMMV.

The selling point is high AND low magnification. Once the clouds hit - mirage disappears and you can use the high magnification. And S&B does offer 50x scope as well, just the lowest setting is 12x (vs 5x on March).

Now the problem with 10:1 zoom capability - FFP becomes troublesome: the reticle is either too fine or too fat.

You're right, I should have said high and low. That's not typically found in most scopes. You have to sacrifice one for the other.

And you're right again. A FFP scope with a 4-40x range would have an almost unusable reticle at either the low or high end.

I personally prefer an FFP reticle in the 4-16x or 5-25x range. Each will have their own personal preference. With the scopes I prefer, I also use a spotting scope as well. The March scope has the ability to eliminate the possible need for a spotting scope, but then what is my buddy going to do? :-) Again, I think it will come down to personal preference. I don't want to give up the FFP and I don't mind using a spotting scope. If you like SFP and having the ability to do high magnification, then the March seems like a good option.
