Winter Vacation Planning - Florida Keys

The Florida Keys is a weird place. There is no surf due to the barrier reef hence the only sandy beaches are what is barged in from the Caribbean. Key West is a gay tourist trap. Best place down there for eating is the Seven Mile Grille at the north end of the Seven Mile Bridge; best Key Lime Pie anywhere.
Many stretches of US 1 is only one lane in each direction.
I've been down there twice and would never go back. It was much better the first time going by motorcycle.
