Not buying her story at all. 
Status of relationship and other background info would affect my take on the situation greatly. Does hubby have life ins? What amount? had they been fighting? Is he a cheater? etc etc.
Don't give my wife any ideas with this thread.
Husband: "Honey let me grab the dog and you shoot the bastard!"
Wife: "What about my backstop, I don't want to hit an innocent bystander"
Husband: "Don't worry I'll be your backstop, just shoot the damn thing"
Not sure if it's great minds think alike or sick minds think alike, but my first thought was at least she shot into a backstop...lol
