As a professional, my experience has been quite the opposite.
Have a problem with a "generic" PC? Replace the part yourself. Average turnaround time (if you keep spares of most parts on-hand): 10 minutes.
Have a problem with an Apple-branded PC? (And yes, that is what they are...) Arrange to ship or take it to an Apple store where an "Apple-certified technician" with quite the backlog will replace the part. Average turnaround time: 1 month. (Note: 4 dealings with Apple support might be statistically insignificant, but it is worth noting that this was 4 out of 20 <1-year-old Apple computers, which is approximately double the rate of failure compared to the "generic" PC's.)
As for quality... remember the official excuse for inexcusable design flaws in the iPhone 4, straight from Steve Jobs? "You're holding it wrong."

So you concede that Apple's OS's don't exhibit "unique programming" that is superior to the "programming" of other similar products, and thus the "programming" may in fact be inferior to other similar products?
You can either buy an Ipad and pay way to much money to apple for all the trash you have to have with it. Or you can buy an Android tablet and root it and turn it into one of the meanest tablets around. (try that on an Ipad and it exploeds haha) Ipads are smooth and work great but apple just kills it for me. I have a samsung captivate rooted and wouldnt trade it for anything. I love samsung products from their tv's to their new mp3 players their super amoled screen's are amazing the sound is superb. I am an android kinda guy and love having the freedom to root it and get free aps get rid of all the unessicary stuff that comes on it. So just ones man opnion but the best thing here is dont listen to the articles or the critics trial by eror is the best way my friend.

For a simple web tablet, the Archos 101 and 70 are good tablets and a lot cheaper than the Galaxy Tab and iPad.

I have an Archos32 that I absolutely love.
You know the viewsonic g tablet that I just sold ran just like an android phone and it has a battery life of about 3 days no lie with constant use. Granted yes not able to keep up with the ipad or or the galxy tab, but after some good research and about 2 hours on a good tech website it can be rooted and able to compete and do just about anything you want. The thing is you can go cheap do a lil research and make it do exactly you want and you can feel better cause you made it that way. Just the kind of person I am I like doing it my self. I think the apple android debate will go on for ever. There will never be a winner. As for apple competiors and stuff ahead of it's time look in south korea and Japan they have samsung MP3 players you can only get over there. They have phones making fried rice! So do YOUR research dont let others do it for you cause as you have seen how that turns out.
