Thanks.

I never have been to one of these. Any details on pricing and what trees might be available?
Seedlings are bare-root, one or two years old, 10 to 30 inches in height and are sold in bundles of 50

Thanks for the heads-up, but I don't have the patience for these tiny trees. I'd rather pay good coin for a tree 10-12' tall and have it planted.

I guess it was 4 years ago when I planted a 4" diameter oak and I am really impressed on the growth rate.
I got it cheap from a tree farm $250 and I had it in the ground the same day it was dug up.
I dug my hole the day before.

The way I see it , if you get the little trees for cheap and have a big field or fence row you want tree's on then not a big deal to wait.
at least for me

I planted 2000 of the bare root trees about 5 years ago at the farm, as part of putting in a Riparian buffer along a creek that is prone to erosion. The NRCS office in my county has a planter that makes it pretty easy.

FYI, it used to be you had to buy 100 trees minimum in bundles of 50. each bundle is one specie of tree. Don't know what they do now, but if you don't have a planter, it is tedious work with a shovel.

The shumard oak will put acorns on in as little as 6 years if anybody is interested in getting a permanent food plot going for deer hunting.

Dennis,
Do you remember What those trees cost when you bought them?

I don't know the cost. The Riparian buffer project came as a bundle. I had to plant trees in rows 90' from the edge of the creek, then put in another 90' of native warm season grass out side of the tree line.

I just looked, and the current cost is $40 for a bundle of 50 oak trees.

I can't find a price schedule anywhere on the forestry.ok.gov website.
Where did you find that price?

You have to drill pretty deep, but here is a link to the hardwoods. minimum order is 100 trees to pick up from the trucks coming around. 500 minimum for mail order.

Edit: here is a better link: http://www.forestry.ok.gov/order-seedlings

Edit: Just found out they have wildlife packages of 4 different types of trees and shrubs that benefit deer directly. Haven't seen this offer before. http://www.forestry.ok.gov/wildlife...=LwBvAHIAZABlAHIALQBzAGUAZQBkAGwAaQBuAGcAcwA=
