I got a sales flyer from cabella's today. They have a $200 slicer on sale for $89 bucks I believe it was.
Already trashed the flyer, but it was a 2 day deal only.

Dakil does have an auction on the 16th of Dec http://www.dakil.com/event/121616_restaurant, The have a boat load of restraurant equipment like Hobart Meat Slicers etc.
You can proxibid which means you bid on the internet for item/s you want then you go pick it up later. In case you want a mean slicer or meat grinder for that matter.
I just checked an no meat slicer or grinder available..sorry.

Dakil also charges a 10% premium on top of what you get the bid for if I remember right.

Came from the neighbor lady, her late husband bought it from Cabela's years ago. It says it's a 1/4HP motor which isn't super-great, but it's ok, I guess. Blade looks to be 9.75", slices in thickness up to about 1/2", it looks like.

So... I knew she had one she was looking to get rid of so I asked her about it and she was trying to describe it, so I just went over and looked and she made me take it home. Said I could consider it my Christmas gift. Oh well. I probably would have bought a bigger one if I were purchasing, but I think it'll do, at least for now. She says it is a commercial grade unit, all steel, etc. Her late husband liked to buy decent stuff. I don't know how heavy duty this one is - supposedly "commercial grade" units are belt-driven, which I doubt this one is. I haven't taken it apart to look inside.

Do you and your wife have a kitchin aid mixer? Like mentioned they are a good option for grinding. Their planetary gear set gives it a ton of power. After Christmas I'm getting the grinder/stuffer attachment for mine. It wouldn't be another appliance to buy and take up space at least.

My other neighbor who is a fireman was over tonight for brats and kraut and he said he has the grinder attachment for theirs. I don't think they've used it yet, so I wasn't sure how powerful it was. Good to hear that it's a viable option, though!
