I'm of a similar mind. I hate the term "long gun" instead of rifle and shotgun.

I can see it now, @bigred1 is in a firefight and runs out of ammo. A friend of his is offering to throw him a clip. @bigred1 refuses the ammo until his friend offers a magazine of ammo.

I’ve called them both. Doesn’t matter too much to me as long as whatever I’m using at the time goes bang when I squeeze the trigger. What gets me is when the media reports gun violence on the news, the shooter uses an “assault weapon “ and the LEO’S use their “duty rifle “
