with all the hay shortages going on. It just occurred to me after seeing state crews mowing the highways, that how come the state and municipalities don't let farmers and ranchers hay this grass to use.
besides all the legal reasons this would save the state money and get us through a tough time state wide.

You used to just have to show proof of liability insurance and get permission. I don't think that has changed, people just don't take advantage of it anymore.

I know some guys in Missouri and Kansas that mow hay on the right of ways next to their property. They just went to their local highway department and got permits to be able to do this.

I thought you could still mow public lands and take the grass for hay and get a tax ride off for it just had to go thru the proper channels? Or am i way behind in the times and regs??
