You as well as the media has forgotten about the death toll on the Israel population and the military. Some of you muslim lovers forget the three young men that were kidnapped and brutally murdered that started this whole mess.

That's awesome. "Muslim lovers"

Some wonder why the condemnation of Israel for its one-sided war, when other areas of the world have the same or worse going on, and no one notices. Could be that the tie between the U.S. and Israel is so tight, most countries view us as one in the same.
Largest foriegn lobby? AIPAC - in 2008 Israel's leader publicly bragged that "the U.S. will do waht Israel wants".
So while it's easy to play the "anti-Semitism" card, (incorrectly used, of course) - the truth is, Americans have a vested interest in the affairs of Israel.
As for "Muslim lovers", that really cracks me up. You could substitute Muslim for about any other race/religion and be banned, forever branded a racist/anti Semite/bigot, but it's OK to say that.
(don't get me wrong, I think you ought to be able to say whatever you want, just pointing out the double standard)

Good question, wonder what would have happened if we hadn't aided Israel in the 1973 war?
The huge airlift Nixon ordered literally saved Israel from destruction.
Nixon didn't do it out of the goodness of his heart though. He was a notorious hater of Jews.
No, it was the height of the cold war and he was determined to best the soviets.

What is the motivation of Hama's for the war and what do they expect to gain from it?http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/07/2...-gambled-on-war-as-its-woes-grew-in-gaza.html

Let's see:

There are also some diplomatic efforts underway seeking to force Hamas to surrender its weapons in exchange for a cease-fire, a demand it is not likely to accept...

In exchange for a cease-fire, Hamas is demanding Israel and Egypt open their borders to end the restrictions on the movement of people and goods — the most immediate issue for ordinary Gazans. It is also asking for the release of prisoners — but avoiding the deeper political issues of the conflict.

So to recap: Hamas will not give up it's weapons, but wants the borders reopened for ordinary Gazans weapons smugglers and suicide bombers. Seems legit! :rolleyes2

It doesn't leave much room for a satisfactory conclusion, merely more of the same even if it's on a lower intensity level.
Hamas just doesn't have very much to lose from this. Everything they seek was already lost.

Was part of it about keeping the Israelis from going nuke which could have likely started WWIII or at least cut off our Middle East oil and caused a major economic disaster?

Who did and didn't want to assist them?

On October 6, Secretary of State Kissinger convened the National Security Council's official crisis management group, the Washington Special Actions Group, which debated whether the U.S. should supply additional arms to Israel. High-ranking representatives of the Defense and State Departments opposed such a move. Kissinger was the sole dissenter; he said that if the U.S. refused aid, Israel would have little incentive to conform to American views in postwar diplomacy. Kissinger argued the sending of U.S. aid might cause Israel to moderate its territorial claims, but this thesis raised a protracted debate whether U.S. aid was likely to make it more accommodating or more intransigent toward the Arab world.[271]...

During the night of October 8–9, an alarmed Dayan told Meir that "this is the end of the third temple."[273] He was warning of Israel's impending total defeat, but "Temple" was also the code word for nuclear weapons.[274] Dayan again raised the nuclear topic in a cabinet meeting, warning that the country was approaching a point of "last resort".[276] That night Meir authorized the assembly of thirteen 20-kiloton-of-TNT (84 TJ) tactical atomic weapons for Jericho missiles at Sdot Micha Airbase, and F-4 aircraft at Tel Nof Airbase, for use against Syrian and Egyptian targets.[274] They would be used if absolutely necessary to prevent total defeat, but the preparation was done in an easily detectable way, likely as a signal to the United States.[276] Kissinger learned of the nuclear alert on the morning of October 9. That day, President Nixon ordered the commencement of Operation Nickel Grass, an American airlift to replace all of Israel's material losses.[277] Anecdotal evidence suggests that Kissinger told Sadat that the reason for the U.S. airlift was that the Israelis were close to "going nuclear".[274] European countries refused to allow U.S. airplanes carrying supplies for Israel to refuel at their bases, fearing an Arab oil embargo, with the exception of Portugal and the Netherlands. Portugal permitted the United States to use a leased base in Azores,[278] and the defence minister of the Netherlands, apparently acting without consulting his cabinet colleagues, secretly authorised the use of Dutch airfields.[279]...
