In answer to your question, your gun may not like what someones identical gun likes, but as you said it is a starting point.

Every .22 gun I have owned, liked some brands and not others. I have always had good luck w/ CCI mini mags

Just use the federal bulk .22 ammo. Every ruger I've ever owned, and there has been a few, shot this the best.
I'll be shooting it in the morning at a steel challenge.
If there was some round more accurate, more what ever, I'd be shooting it in the competition.
haven't found one yet.

If I were shooting for groups, I'd do a little experimenting with different manufactures.

I do like the CCI Mini-Mags, but ha ve had really good shooting with CCI's .22lr Blazer brand.

all of mine shoot diferent ammo best. I went and bought all the .22 ammo that Outdoor America had one day and tried it all. My S&W 41's liked Tenex best . the Ruger Mk1 CCI Match. My HiStandard also liked the Tenex. But if your using it for hunting I would use Either CCI Stinger or Volasator.
