Driving too fast is dangerous, and illegal,I do not condone it,but sometimes you just find yourself traveling with the flow of traffic and traffic is almost always going 5-15 over.

I'm out on the road between Tulsa and Des Moines and back every other week, and then between either Tulsa or Des Moines and California every quarter and I dont use anything but my instincts these days. I used to keep up with all of the latest detectors when I lived in California but gave up on it when I moved out east because the cops out here are tricky and sneaky. I havent ever gotten a ticket on either I-80 or I-40,and I always make or beat my usual times to and back from California. I have got a few tickets in California when there, and since Ive been living in Oklahoma Ive got a couple on the BA Expressway and a couple on I-35,always in Missouri and always just outside of Kansas City.

I have never got a ticket while driving my black 88' S-10 Blazer 4x4 that Ive had since I bought it new in 88',but have gotten pretty much all of my speeding tickets in my black 98' Toyota Supra twinturbo that I also bought new in 98',no matter where Ive been at the time. Coincidence?

The last ticket I remember getting was a few years ago in Missouri, I was driving the Supra on my way north up to Des Moines and was just outside of KC. He got me at 85. While I was sitting in his car he went up to my car and apparently told my wife to tell me that that (the radar detector I had hurriedly put in the floorboard before getting out for him) wouldnt do me any good in Missouri and showed her his stopwatch. He showed it to me too about 5 minutes later. Havent relied on a detector since.

My dad was traveling between Muskogee and Ft Smith one time on the turnpike and was in a small convoy of cars going about 10-15 over and when they got to the turnpike gate there were OHPs waiting on them with lights on. One by one they came to each car to write a ticket. My dad asked what was up. The officer just pointed to the sky. Airplane. Lolll. My dad is an ex LEO too. And had his fancyschmancy radar detector ("bear finder") on the dash never lit up.

Its best just to try and obey the law and take your time and drive within the limit. You still get there, just a few minutes later.

Valentine is the ONLY one I'd have (and do). the arrows are a lifesaver especially if you take into an account that it counts out the signals it receives. If you pass a cop on the highway you'll know if there is another just over the hill or not. Also it is upgradeable so after the initial cost if there is ever a major upgrade you can do it and not have to start new (I have not felt the need to upgrade in the 5 or so years I've had mine). Also, A lot of people dont know that it is programmable. When I'm in the city limits I leave the X band off (the one that super market door openers use) because only very old radar guns use the band still.

Both Valentine and Escort are good. Most online testing sites rank them #1 and #2 interchangably. Comparing them is like comparing Glock and Springfield, it's a never ending circular debate.

Personally, I have a strong preference towards the Escort. It gives you the ability to turn off certain bands and lock out sources that you know are falses. Last I checked, Valentine doesn't do that. The falses would eventually cause me to ignore the thing. Lots of people like the arrows, but I haven't found a lot of value in them. In all of the situations that Valentine owners say the arrows "saved" them, I've been able to figure out using the Escort.

A big benefit for the Valentine is that you can send it in to get it upgraded. I don't think Escort offers this service yet.

I've dealt with customer service at Escort and it was great. I hear good things about Valentine's customer service as well.

I've owned 4 Escorts so far. I end up giving them to relatives so I can trade up. No one has complained so far.

Radar or not, be safe.

I use the Escort 850X. It is incredible. It works great for instant-on too, as it will pick up artifacts from others being popped. That said, if you are the only one in the area and you get popped, your popped.

As far Phazer, that is BS, there is no such thing as a radar jamming unit available for consumer use. Rocky Mountain radar has been sued several times over their claims. I have tried them, they don't work. They have all kinds of explanations for why the indepenent tests failed. I know the owner of Rocky Mountain, he is a serious pos.

I use a Valentine One. Just be forewarned radar detectors are good ONLY when there is traffic ahead of you, such as on the interstate. If you are on the road by yourself, there is nothing that can save you. They turn off the radar and have you instantly. Also, none of them are effective against LIDAR.

So basically, when it is safest to speed (when noone else is on the road), you are more likely to get a ticket. When there is plenty of radar fodder in the form of cars on the road that are getting checked in front of you, they are effective. Saves me tons of money in tickets. Finding the discipline to slow down by yourself is the hard part.

you could get a Phazer 3, it is a radar jammer.
It is only illegal in 42 states, and oklahoma is one of them, but they did have a guarantee that if you ever get a speeding ticket and used a Phazer they would pay the ticket

I believe you are incorrect. Im not a traffic cop by any means BUT if I've read the statute correctly..It is illegal to possess and use unless you have a FCC license.

Stay away from those, they are total BS. They've been torn apart and they're essentially a 555 timer hooked to an LED to make it blink.

I have a sensoro silver bullet radar detector that I've had since about 04-05, and it still picks off most cops long before I see them. I don't depend on it though, I drive with my cruise control about 5 over max
