Autoincorrect strikes again. The irony of that whole pronunciation thing is that Julien C. Monnet (the founding Dean of the law school) was born in France to French parents. You wouldn’t expect him to use an Okie pronunciation.
He was born in Iowa, and the actual pronunciation of his name is Mon-eh…but you know how we like to butcher names in America.

You are correct about his birthplace; in my defense, I’m operating on about three hours of sleep, which is a very different proposition than it was when I read The Dean (roughly 30 years ago). The only person I knew who also knew Dean Monnet called him Dean Muhn-net, but he (Monnet) passed many years before I was born, so I can’t swear to how he pronounced it.
