I had to stop and get a bottle of water out of my cooler in the back seat and when I walked around the pickup there was a box on the ground with 6 of these in it, anyone know what they are ?

That is correct, wire size should be on brass thing on end. It is an automatic, just push wire into end and it will lock in.
