No I agree that keep and bare arms means just that, but until we get our constitution back to the way it began we are stuck with a licensing system to carry that I am afraid one day may become licensing system to own with some one making the decision for you.

Are the "Wild West", “blood in the streets” comments the same arguments they threw out when concealed carry became law?

The open carry comments are a direct slam on all the State certified instructors, the OSBI, and the citizens that paid good money for the license.

"If we’re going to have open carry, do you not have any visions of the Long Branch Saloon and ... we’ve all got these guns and just strap those on our hip?” Rep. Jerry McPeak, D-Warner,

I went to church with Jerry and his family when I was I kid. I did not realize then, Jerry got all his information about the world from the movies.

Rep. Glen Bud Smithson, a former state trooper, questioned the need to allow people to openly carry their handguns.
"Most people who are confident in themselves don’t need to strut down the street showing everybody their gun,” said Smithson, D-Sallisaw. "Why do they need to show everybody their gun? Because most of them are cowards.”

Even from Sallisaw, there are these eliteist, who have been put in office. The office just furthers there elitism. Why do troopers where their guns on their hips? Is Rep. Glen Bud Smithson a former coward?

Then a lot of you are wrong. the Constitution doesn't give that right, it guarantees that right, a right that pre-existed the Constitution.

To ownwmed, the right to 'keep and bear arms' is not the same as driving a car. Gun ownership and bearing is guaranteed by the COTUS, driving a car is not. My right to 'keep and bear' shall not be infringed. Look up the word 'infringed' and you will see that requiring a license to 'keep and bear arms' is an illegal and unconstitutional law.

Truer words were never spoken....

dictionary term for bear arms,

a. to carry weapons.

b.to serve as a member of the military or of contending forces: His religious convictions kept him from bearing arms, but he served as an ambulance driver with the Red Cross.

My observation is not a popular one but I believe it is the truest one...

If you go back and read more than the 2nd amendment you will realize that the bill of rights were recognized as God given and to be protected at all costs by our govt.... not for the govt to chip and chisel away at.... I would say all gun laws are unconstitutional.... For example, even the ones that say a felon cannot own, have or carry....

I believe that once a person goes to prison or jail and have served their time.... that is it, served their time, they are finished... but yet it is their rights, not privileges that are taken away.... so they are forced to serve a lifetime sentence of giving up their recognized and constitutionally guaranteed god given rights that supposedly cannot be taken away for any reason, as they are not a gift....

Which is a requirement of the govt to protect at all costs, an oath that every branch representative takes before they serve.... To protect the constitution it is not just a neat thing to say at the swearing in ceremony...

Once people get used to being punished and loosing their rights or it is an excepted practice in the community.... then we are all truly prisoners just at different levels of legal standings.... instead of all men that ARE created equal.... We become peasants with different levels of anointing....

Just something to think about....

cowmugger, would you happen to have a source for that quote? McPeak is my Rep and I'm sorry to say I voted for him and would like the entire quote if possible.

Incorrect, current law in AZ is open carry- no permit required concealed carry requires permit.

Actually, you need to do a little more research.
The bill was signed into law on 4/16/2010, but it doesn't go into effect until 7/29/2010. Just as if the Gov. were to sign our open carry bill today, it still wouldn't go into effect until Nov.

The entire point of my post was that Arizona can't be used as an example of untrained gun carriers being safe gun carriers. The comment was made that if the licensing was removed, along with the education to obtain the license, it could possibly lead to duels in the street. Then the comment was made "Like Arizona right? gun duels there at high noon everyday".
Since only licensed individuals are currently open carrying in AZ. they can't be used as a guideline yet.

I'm in no way implying that chaos will reign if the licensing requirement is removed. But, I don't think that formal education on gun safety is a bad idea either.

No, you're missing the point. AZ has been an open carry state for years. To conceal, you needed a permit.

AZ did just pass a law, which takes effect in July as you mentioned, that allows anyone to open or conceal carry without a permit. The new law simply extends the current open carry policy to include concealed carry. If you have or attain a concealed weapons permit, you can also conceal other types of weapons that are typically illegal to conceal.

My folks live in AZ. It has been a common sight to see a rancher drive into town with a revolver on his hip, have lunch, buy supplies, and drive back out. It has been that way from some time now.

As far as training, yes, it is a great idea. Realize though, 150 years ago, people were learning to use guns to survive from a very, very young age. OK was an open carry state prior to the SDA going in place. This isn't "new" territory. The only difference is due to the restrictive laws that are in place, we've lost our "gun culture" for lack of a better term.

I think the biggest success was getting CC.
My thoughts are most people would rather not have anyone know they are carrying.

The OC option was something we never should have lost.
For it to raise this much discussion is kind of confusing.

I'm afraid that we as a group of people have been desynthetized to what should be something we accept as the norm.
Open carry is a law, if we hear it enough we'll start to belive it.

Also if you want to see this happen you really should contact the Governor office and encourage him to sign it ASAP.
