Hello all, i am from Iowa and am interested in in coming down to oklahoma to kill a few hogs, don't really wanna pay $600 for two day to kill something that is just a nuisance anyways, just curious if anyone had any info about where we could try or public ground. Anything really helps i think it will be 4 of us and we just want to have a good time. If you have personal hunting ground we would pay or even trade for an Iowa deer hunt and we were really interested in tagging along wiht someone using dogs. Thanks

As for public, you want to look around lakes, obviously. Your best bet is going to be in south eastern oklahoma. We have some up here by Ft. Gibson and Lake Heyburn. Gonna be cold though, and remember that if you're on public ground here in OK, you have to have purchased a deer license and you can't use anything to whack em but the weapon in season. That means, unless you're coming down in the next week and a half for our special doe gun season, you're gonna be stuck hitting em with archery equipment.

Not entirely correct. Coyote is always in season with whatever legal means you choose, therefore, so are pigs. However, I would always consult the regs if you are going out on public lands as they sometimes differ on when and what you can use. And WacosSon is correct, if you are afield during the holiday antlerless season, you will need a doe tag to hog hunt.

You might try the following guide in SE Ok. = Ethan Wright 580-236-0600...he knows where the hogs are, as well as trout.

You might also look at the following businesses: Chain Ranch.com, or Addictive hunting.com

You can carry any weapon you like regardless of season. This is from the Q&A section on the ODWC website...

If coyote season is open year-round on a WMA, does that mean that hog hunting is open year-round?

Yes, provided that during the firearms deer seasons (muzzleloader, modern gun and special antlerless seasons) you must possess a filled or unfilled deer license for that appropriate season, and you must comply with other regulations that apply to that season (blaze orange requirements, for example).

While the specific question is directed towards WMA's, the jist of it is that coyote season is open year round, with whatever legal means you choose, i.e. rifle, shotgun, archery. You can shoot hogs with whatever weapon is legal for any open season at that time. Therefore, you can use a rifle year round to shoot coyotes, and hogs.

I have been told thet the lake Heyburn WMA just west of Tulsa has quite a few hogs running it. Personally I can not confirm it, but I know people that have seen them out there.
