Well, I'm trying out different razor blades in the ol'double edge razor.
Jim at The Shave Shop,in the Classen curve shops, sold.me a pack of
Feather razors. From what I've read about this brand, they are SHARPER
then your regular Gillette or Shark razor blades.
Can't wait to try them tomorrow morning!!!

Feather razor blades...sharper than your regular blade!!!

I don't use Feathers because my technique can get sloppy when I'm in a hurry, and they can be unforgiving.

I use BIC Chrome Platinums. They're sharper than Derby, et al without being ridiculous like the Feathers. They last, too; I bought a 100 pack a year and a half ago and I'm only maybe 2/3 of the way through the pack.

Ive been wanting to get a safety razor since the whole cartridge system is so darn expensive and they dont seem to last very long at all. How expensive are good blades? how long do they last? Are there any good shave shops in Tulsa? Thanks!

I bought the aforementioned 100-pack of BICs for $20, and that was splurging; cheaper blades like DORCO are $8/100, and I did OK with DORCOs.

Like I said, I've been working through that 100 pack for about 1.5 years.

Are there any good shave shops in Tulsa? Thanks!

Ted's Pipe Shop carries Colonel Conk shaving soap. You can buy Van der Hagen soap (glycerin soap, same thing as Conk basically) at Walgreens, as well as a brush. My first setup was a Burma Shave brush and a puck of Williams soap that I bought at Reasor's for a grand total of $4. I'm pretty sure you can buy old school barbershop stuff like Osage Rub and Lucky Tiger at various beauty supply stores. Bath and Body Works carries a really good shaving cream called C.O. Bigelow that's just rebranded Proraso, along with some aftershaves that are supposed to be decent but I've never tried them.

Shaving geeks! Cool!

I've used Feathers in the past, but they're a tad too sharp for me. I usually cut myself on the first shave or two before they "settle in." My preference is for Derby.

Didn't know that blades were available locally - thanks for the tip!
