It's hard to guess what your 351W would make without more info. You're biggest issue would be what cylinder heads you have.

By looking at them I'd guess that they are the factory cougar heads. For not much more then what it would cost to rebuild them I could just buy a new set if that helps

my statement is very correct. Ford has always been twice as high on parts. Fastest mustangs in OK do have a BIG BLOCK CHEVYS in them, there are a few mustangs with a ford engine that are very fast but they have 50k worth of turbos and prochargers. And i stand firm that the OP should get a 5.0 fuel injected engine harness and computer and make the truck reliable in these 115 degree summers.... That GM lsx engine pakages are very cool but over budget for this build.

My friends 89 with the 383 is the secound fastest mustang that I personally know. The fastest is my other friends 2003 supercharged Cobra. I have a bone stock 89 GT that cant even keep up with that 383.

GT40/GT40P heads will be superior to just about any stock 351W casting and can be picked up pretty inexpensive.

Yea that's kinda what Ive been seeing. and they seem quite plentiful.

In the next month or so I'm going to try to get the motor torn apart and take it to a a guy / machine shop that one of my buddy knows. Hopefully he can look at it and tell me what I have, need and recommend a course of attack whether that be to start over or rebuild what I already have.

As far as parting out an explorer is concerned...... It sure sounds nice in theory but the thought of how big an undertaking it is makes me hurl a little in my mouth. also. Any drive train I get is bound to have quite a few miles on it. Because I dont want issues I really wouldn't want to put it in the truck unless it was also rebuilt which would surly put me way over budget . I will say. For a very brief moment I pondered transplanting the 5.4L Triton out of my 02. Now that would be a nice little setup!

When you find out what the machine shop bill is going to be after turning the crank and reconditioning the rods (assuming they can be saved), and replacing the pistons, rings, bearings and rod bolts, compare what it would cost to just buy a 393 kit from some place like www.adperformance.com. The kit will come with all that stuff new (and better quailty). The block work is the same either way. It will likely cost slightly more, like $200 or so, but IMO, I'd buy a fresh stroker kit over a stock rebuild.

That place looks like a great option. Right now I'm really just getting it apart and an inventory on what is actually there. Stupid question... Are stroked engines any less reliable?
