I have one thing to contribute. Please keep in mind I'm not in favor of ILLEGAL immigration or any of the associated costs that arise from it. This happened while on an extended job in Phoenix, AZ. By the way, a lot of you need to learn the difference between stereotyping and racism.

The company I worked for allowed one day to each department to be a "fun day" for that year. Go drive go carts, go bowling, whatever each department decided to do. Well, since we had a girl that weighed 400 pounds if she weighed an ounce, that severely limited our "fun". Some do-gooder suggested we use our day to feed the homeless at the shelter in downtown Phoenix. This was decided to be the thing and I thought: (Stereotype Alert!) "Man, we're gonna be slinging beans and tortillas all day down there."

That could not have been further from the truth. We served over 600 plates of food for lunch that day and I can't remember seeing a single Latino/Hispanic-looking person in the lot. There were A LOT of ungrateful, bitchy, foul-mouthed people of other races greedily scarffing down the free chicken, potatoes, and pie. There were grateful ones, as well. But I never forgot that.

The one thing this taught me is to listen and have a rational conversation about this issue. All is NOT what it may seem or what you might think.

One doesn't exist without the other. They'e siblings. They grew up together and they defend each other. Turn one over and you'll find the other wiggling around in the dirt underneath.

the title in itself mentions Jose, which is Spanish for Joe so that is racial... And come on lets not be ignorant we know this thread is mostly targeting Mexicans.

When did he ever mention their race? Other than being described as a "minority", race is never mentioned.

The use of the name Jose wasn't by accident and was chosen so that the reader would identify the "illegal" as a person of Mexican, Latin or Hispanic origin. Just like Joe was chosen to identify the "legal" as a hard working, over taxed, barely able to make ends meet, White American that doesn't receive the same benefits that were meant to help people like him and his family.
