I lol over obummers comment that class sizes make a difference. I agree with that as most classes are restricted to 30 or so students. Good deal.

What I've never understood is why colleges have classes with over a hundred in the room and grad students as helpers? If its higher ecucation, should not the classes be even smaller?

Because college courses aren't hands-on instructive like K-12, they are lecture based.

Lower class sizes in K-12 are better because students get more one on one help when needed. The biggest problem with education in America isn't class size though...

I can't speak for all classrooms, but I do know that 15 years ago, not sure if this still applies, science classes in high schools were limited to the number of students per size of the room. If you exceed the number of students, the district could be fined. Guess what, it was cheaper to pay a daily fine than it was to hire an additional teacher.
