Dick Sporting Goods in OKC? No Handguns?

What? They don't carry handguns? Guy behind the counter said it was "for liability reasons"... but they have some AR's and some HD shotguns. Guess the liability issue isn't the same. He also told me that the best SD round for 9mm was the Winchester NATO stuff in tthe white box. He said it wasn't marked +P, but it was super powerful and had a lot of knock-down power. It looked like regular old FMJ to me, but hey, he's the expert I reckon.

Dicks is not geared toward the firearms enthusiest. They also seem to be more expensive than most other sporting goods stores.

I was at one in Kansas 2yrs ago they had a Thompson Omega SS with camo thumbhole stock. It was missing the front site, and someone had put a screw in it. They had it marked down to $299. I pointed out the front site and I got it for $250 OTD. Keep in mind this at the time was a $500 gun. I love the behind the counter experts.

Dick's is an overpriced Academy. The best part of the place in Moore was the new store smell.

Yeah, but I got it on good authority that the WWB there at Dick's was super-powerful, even if it does look like plain old FMJ stuff.

I've generally been happy with Academy Sports. Over the last 9 months, I've been inside Dick's maybe 3 times looking for specific things. Dick's did not have it or their product was priced much higher than any other. Academy has good prices on footwear, as well as other sporting clothing.

I actually can buy a handgun at a modestly decent price at Academy Sports. Their behind the gun case guys are sharper than those at Dick's.

I'm sure that foot traffic at Dick's OKC location will decline once many potential customers figure out its not the place for them. The Tulsa area stores are not that busy any more.
