Savage Axis/Edge is the same deal as a 770. It's just junk. Poor quality, proprietary parts means no future upgrades. Plane Jane ADL at Academy is $379.99. You can add a $30 scope to it and you'll just be a little over the 770 in cost but have a much better rifle.

Sorry but the Tikka is more then just a decent rifle, it is one of the best rifles you can buy for under $1000. It will shoot under MOA with cheap Winchester Power Points, and the action is butter smooth.

They are good rifles, but behind Savage/Remington of the same price. Besides the lack of customization parts, Tikkas have other quirks - namely recoil lug, or lack of ... poor design if you ask me, just like what kills Axis/Edge.

I have an employee that bought a 770. Within 1 box of ammunition, something in the firing pin assembly broke, rendering the rifle useless. Does that mean all 770's are junk? No, but it is indicative of poor quality control and cheap materials. With so many other good choices out there, I would have to echo others' sentiments and tell you to stay away.

I have a 770 in a 308 along with a Mossberg ATR 100 in a 308. Both are excellent rifles. I prefer the Mossberg. I would recommend getting better scopes than what come from the factory. I have a RedField on the Remington 770 and a Nikon MilDot on the Mossberg.

I'm leaning toward the 700 ADL. I think I'll run to Academy today & look at them. After reading some user reviews it seems everyone is really happy with the bolt action & the reciol pad as it comes off the shelf. I'm not educated at all about scopes, so there will be a learning curve there.

I bought a .243 ADL at academy and sold the stock, barrel, and trigger for $100. Turned it into this:
