Thought it might be good to start another thread so people don't have to go through all the planning and "spread the word" threads.

First of all, I want to thank each and every person who came out today. I'll be honest, I started out today more nervous than a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. The size of the crowd and the energy I was receiving from all of you got me really focused and energized, and all my fears went straight out the window. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. The OHP Capitol Patrol estimated we had 2000 people show up.

Our speakers were simply great. I especially was blown away by State Senator Nathan Dahm. I seriously think we may have met our next Governor of the State of Oklahoma.

I have video of the first half of the rally, unfortunately my camera ran out of memory. I forgot to buy an SD card for it. DUH... I'm sure that others have the rest, and as soon as I figure out how to stitch all these clips together, I will upload to youtube and post links.

Before the event, some had asked for donations to help reimburse OKOCA for the considerable cost expended to rent the stage. I was hoping we would get close, but holy cow... we took in more than double what we spent... so we have a surplus. There was talk of donating the surplus to NRA-ILA, but I have an idea and I want to see what the community who so generously donated this money thinks about this idea.

I propose setting up a committee. A committee that will take applications from law abiding families who want a self defense firearm in the home, or who want their handgun licenses, but who just cannot spare the cost from their budget. A foundation of sorts that will accept future donations, and interview worthy recipients. Make sure the situation is as it is represented (I'd want some checks in place) then decide how to help them. Use the surplus funds from today to jumpstart this effort.

I know for a fact that there are a number of instructors who would be willing to comp a seat in an SDA (self defense act) class from time to time, right? What about working with a local FFL to purchase them a gift certificate for a HiPoint and a box of ammo? What about paying for some or all of their fees to apply for the SDA license?

This is all just an idea bouncing around in my brain at this point, but I really want to know...what do you think?

Thanks Okiebyan for organizing this. I have to agree about Senator Dahm, great speaker and message.
Gives me some hope that the youngsters will get to see the 2nd live on.

Brian, I think that is a great idea as the cost of getting a carry permit is out of some peoples reach. Also I know that TX has an indigent program for this reason maybe we can also ask some of our state reps to research and do something like that here in Oklahoma.

Here's a partial video from today's rally. Skip ahead to 2:56 to get past the noonado...(storm sirens doing their noon test thing)

Really appreciate the effort. It was an unqualified success.

Good times, and lots of people.

As for the surplus money, that's a good idea. However, just to throw some more ideas out there, maybe use it for another rally. We're not out of the woods yet with the idiots in power.

Thanks again and good job.

What is the horn sound in the background? I couldn't do any more than 30 seconds.

I actually recognized one person in attendance.

Glad there was a good turnout. How much media was there?

The horn sound was the county testing the storm sirens. Skip ahead to 2:56 in the video for the start of the speech.

OHP estimated there were 2000 people there. I was blown away. The Oklahoman, News9, KOCO and Fox 25 were supposedly all there, but personally I only saw News9 and KFOR.
