This right here.
Hope they catch them & you get your stuff back.

Hope they get caught. I don't have a lot of faith in you getting your 'stuff' back, though. Especially if it ends up in a pawn shop. It is my understanding that the only way you can get it back from pawn is to purchase it. No consequences for broker on taking stolen merchandise. If it is used in another crime, then PD takes it into possession, you MAY be able to purchase at police auction, it may be destroyed, or kept in police inventory. Keep looking, good luck, adn IF I am mistaken on any of this, PLEASE post.
This opinion taken from friends who have had burglaries adn property found in local (Lawton) pawn shops.

It's true that if any of the items are used in the commission of a crime, PD will hold them as evidence. However, you do not have to buy them back. Just present proof of ownership, theft (usually a police report filed at the time the items were stolen). You may have to file a motion in court (Forgive me I forget the title ... Maybe someone who's still active can tell you ... it's been a long time for me ... ) to get the PD to release your items but there are lawyers out there who do this kind of pleading for "alleged" criminals who lose their stuff to confiscation all the time ...

I can't tell you if the pawn shop deal is right or not. But that seems awfully unfair if it is ... I thought pawn shops had to take the hit financially if an item they have in their inventory turns out to be stolen, but maybe not. Hmmmmm ...

No idea where you got this info exactly, but pawnbrokers don't own stolen things. One only has title to an item the same as the person they bought it from. If the police positively ID stolen property, they are obligated to recover it. I don't know at what point the owner gets it back. The pawn shop that bought it is just out the money they loaned or paid for it, because they don't have ownership of something that the seller didn't have the right to sell. I've been in court before for the stolen property docket, and the judge makes it very clear that it doesn't matter that you paid for something, if it's stolen, you don't have ownership of the item.
