I'm a bit conflicted due to his communist/socialist stance but I know this; if someone came here and oppressed me because of the color of my skin, jailed my family, killed my people etc...I'd be inclined to put tires around their necks and light that sh$t on fire too. In fact I'd do my best to come up with stuff that would make the ANC blush, so I won't really condemn all of his methods.

In no way, shape, or form was apartheid acceptable for the human race. Period.

Just to be clear, our founding fathers were considered terrorists, and the colonies were quite successful and prosperous. Any time you have oppression, eventually you will find rebels.

Umm...Yea they were pretty prosperous by the time of the Revolution. But they got a pretty steep learning curve handed to them when they first landed. Once they figured out that socialism doesn't really work, they did pretty well.

Mandela was apparently for equal rights, social justice, and all that lofty, touchy feely, birkenstock stuff for most of his life as far as I can tell. I guess his stance against racism trumps everything, no matter how said stance was arrived at or methods used to achieve it. I call it "false freedom". If you want all races and creeds to suffer equally, that makes it alright? I find it kind of depressing that an avowed communist is so revered. Not surprising though.

How many other "leaders" can claim they are recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize, the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Soviet Order of Lenin ?

Who is Obama, Alex? Well, IF there were still a Soviet Union, and Carter was again President, then 0 would have the other two. Fortunately, Reagan got rid of both Evil Emperors.

Mandela was an opportunistic Commie who used racial issues to achieve his aims. Between him, the U.N., and several other notables the southern portion of Africa was set back, both economically and in personal freedoms, several decades. 'Sides, how free could you be if the solution to segregation is Communism?

Ironically, Jan Smuts, a father of the League of Nations, and the guy who wrote the preamble to the UN Charter, was a big proponent of segregation in the Union of South Africa when he was one of the leaders. Guess he switched sides, maybe became a Democrat.

These people are not about freedom, democracy, justice, equality, or any of the other newspeak which speweth from their pinholes. It was, and is, purely about power and authoritah.

Hell, maybe it is better now. Maybe the roughly 30% of people who live on a buck twenty-five a day and are unemployed had it worse before the country went Commie.

I do know this. Lowering the United States Flag to half-staff (it's half-mast on a ship) today for someone who doesn't rate it is analogous to striking the colors for the Commies.

Lest we forget, tomorrow is Pearl Harbor Day, which REQUIRES the Flag to be at half-staff/half-mast. Well, at least the Arizona Memorial wasn't changed. I guess that's some consolation. I am appalled at the conduct of the people currently holding offices in our country.

Did Obama dictate a half-staff when Margret Thatcher passed away??? nope.

I'll give Mandella one thing. When he was inaugurated, he invited his white jailers of 27 years to the ceremony.

Well, he reminded me of Che Guevara trying to imitate Martin Luther King. King, to the best of my knowledge, was a sterling fellow.

Mandella also passed legislation restricting discrimination against the minority whites.

Not trying to dismiss his other "problems", just passing along some info.
