Possibly could depend on how old the shotgun is. My grandpa had a Sears & Roebuck bolt action shotgun that my dad talked about as a kid that had a firing pin issue. He talked about how it could go off with a sudden jolt to the shotgun like when they were jumping over a fence. My uncle has sense had a gunsmith work on the shotgun to fix the problem as well as restoring this family heirloom that I would shoot as a kid as well.

That's a sad deal.

Sounds like he didn't take good safety precautions (ensure gun is unloaded, never point the muzzle towards yourself or anyone, etc). Only takes one mistake to turn into a tragedy.

I spoke with somebody at my work that used to be LE. He says it has to do with the insurance. If they charge the deceased with a crime, "apparently that's what they do in suicides" the life insurance company doesn't have to pay out.

About 25 something years ago, i fellow i knew in Tennessee was putting a .22 marlin rifle in his car and it happened to be loaded. The trigger hit something and it went off, hit him in the throat and killed him....right in front of his grandson. Awful, awful.

When we get complacent we die.

He was in front of the muzzle. He hadn't safety checked the rifle from when the grandson brought it to him. he loaded the rifle in the vehicle butt first. etc.

Everyone please remember redundancy in the rules is what keeps bad things from happening.
