I wish nukes were the answer. It would be so easy to drop a dozen or so on the entire region and make pretty glass marbles out of them.

Unfortunately, the stakes with nukes are too high. The risk is too great. All it takes is one nuke-owning nation to think that we are targeting them, or getting to close and we end up with a nuke landing on our own soil, and that triggers more nukes.

I think we need to go back to Atomic bombs like Fat Man for this job. Our current Thermonuclear weapons are just too large to be of any use.

Screw boots on the ground! Put nukes on the ground! We need to stop dancing around what war is... we need to decimate them and the lands in which they derive power from. Send a message that if they want the full might of the US, then they will get it.

We don't need to eradicate them with infantry and armor, we need to psychologically break them. That's what this war is about. Wills and psyches. If we send a strong message, any future populaces will think twice before they choose to harbor this organization, and anyone thinking about executing American citizens will think twice before they do so.

Who is this "them" to which you refer? Because if you know where "them" is located, you might want to share that info. Otherwise, you are making the MOAG (Mother Of All Generalizations). Unless you are advocating the murder of tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands or millions of innocent people in the quest to quench your blood-lust.

In the 10 plus years of the War on Terror, there have been about 5200 Americans killed. In that same time frame, there have been well over 125,000 Americans killed by other Americans right here in the good old U.S.A..

I visited the Air Force museum in Dayton a few years ago. The B-29 "Bockscar" that dropped Fat Man is there. Looks like they could fire the sucker back up and do another run.

It's not the most efficient design. less than 20% of the fissionable material actually achieved fission, but MAN what a bang! Seems to be plenty efficient for what we need to do.

Only bad part of it is that they missed their intended target by a few miles due to some fog/low lying clouds.

I really don't see the US going into a full scale war or pulling out just for the sake of two unfortunate people executed in their cause.

I don't either, at least not for another couple of years. Obama has the intelligence community all over that video trying figure out who was running the knife. He's treating it like a law enforcement issue! The only reason we've started to do the piddly bombing we have is because of all the countries to do it, France stepped up and sent some weapons to the Kurds. Now England and Germany are pitching in too. As is his normal Obama is playing follow the real leaders, because he only holds the title.

Apparently he meant the golf course since that's where he went after the press conference.
