I took an 8 pt near Okarche this evening that was aggressively chasing a doe and responded to my grunts. I saw the doe running wildly around a field this morning but he never came into the open. This evening, however, he chased her around the same field about 20 mins before dark. I watched him from about 500 yds out, then when he got within 300, I started grunting. Ended up taking him at 65 yds.

The buck rule on my place is "don't shoot it unless you're going to mount it", and I practice what I preach. I'm hunting my own land but have neighbor/leasers hunting my south and east fences (literally have stands and feeders set up ON my fences), so I fully realize that every buck I pass could easily get killed on the next property. That's just a chance I have to take.

You need a cull program in place to weed out the bad genetics or you will never reach your top potential.

Congrats on the buck!

Did you get any pics?

Great job. Did you get some blood on that new knife or is it on the wall?

Didn't use the new knife. Didn't have it with me. Though my little one used her new knife to field dress her doe. Surprising for an 8 year old to jump right in the middle of the blood and guts.
