My 2 cents, the 6.8 is dying I think. I'd go with 300 Blackout/ 300 Whisper.

You might think that, but it's actually more popular with the hunting crowd than defense and "tactical". It's a great hog round, actually Bill Wilson's favorite. The 6.5 Grendel would be king, but it's designer killed it's potential for success by refusing to share proprietary information and trademarks. The .300 BLK round is lacking in ballistics at range, so hunters aren't embracing it the way they do the 6.8.

I don't think the perfect mid-bore AR round has been developed yet, but until it is, the 6.8 will do good enough. :)

Inside of 300 yards a .300BO is about as good, cheaper bolts (std AR), and mags are everywhere.

You won't be dropping deer or anything else past 400'ish or thereabouts and you better know your drops very well, while a 6.5 will go much much further with ease but needs a full length barrel (22" or 24"). I was in the "torn between 6.5 & 6.8 camp" until I figured out they are completely different animals.

My set up for the rifle whenever I'm able to make it will be for more of a tactical set up, kinda close and personal. So I'm not looking to punch out anything past 300 yards, that is still even pushing it. No doubt in mind that all three rounds are good , just like the debate over the AK and AR.
Now what I would like is an AR in 7.62x39. I know CMMG had just brought out this weird ass hybrid thing, looks pretty interesting. Now the real question is "does it work".
