I think its horse hockey, I'm willing to bet that who ever had that card is just making up the whole "combat vet with ptsd" angle. Yeah I'm so disturbed by a regular guy with a gun that I spent extra time fishing out a card and giving it to a cashier. As an Army vet I find the whole thing rather distasteful.

I'd like to know what some of you, especially other combat vets on here, think about the PTSD aspect of this card.

Since PTSD can manifest in many possible ways it is impossible to account for every individual's possible reaction to something. Some people don't like lights or loud music, other don't like dogs barking, some have little to nothing in the way of specific triggers but just a generalized anxiety, etc.

I am sorry that that service member suffers PTSD but do believe that the appropriate response is to undergo counseling so that he can understand that in an open carry State, the open carrying of weapons does not represent a threat to him and so that he can develop coping methods beside asking the world to abrogate others' rights to suit him.

Apparently people are passing these out in Texas, not large scale I am sure, but it made me think.... should we make a counter to it? A card that says "I legally carried a concealed firearm here today. I didn't harm or threaten anyone, but if someone had tried to harm me, my family or patrons of this business around me, I would have risked my life and used the skills I have trained hard to aquire to stop them."

Nice idea but my CC class teacher said we are armed to protect our selves and our family not to be a hero. Hence don't "risk your life for me". If you are so driven to do that join the military, put on a uniform and serve our country because we really need more of those folks.
The thinking that one is going to save the life of many because of CC does not hold water. If I am not threatened trying to save someone else is a whole new can of worms. Stray bullets, lawsuits, etc. My instructor said to only make CC about one's self, family and love ones, not to be a hero.

The person handing out these is pretty whacked. Id bet there is a decent chance the guy is not even a vet. Most all my combat vet buddies don't make a point of drawing attention to themselves, or their conditions. In group ptsd counseling with the VA we found those who did were likely faking it and never had a moment of combat in their tour of duty. :D

Which is why I put the words "around me" in it. If the table next to mine gets shot up at a restaurant, or people near me in a store, I am going to assume I am also threatened, not wait till I personally am being shot at. That whole "don't fire unless fired upon" stuff only works in Star Trek.

If that works for you go for it. As for me I will remain a defensive party that would not fire until fired upon in a public restaurant. Cars, home, all that is a different set of circumstances but in an open restaurant thats just not me or why I carry.

the star trek thing, ??? :hithead::w000t: lmao!
