Brand new, never fired. If I put 6 rounds in the 6 round mag, the mag will not insert fully. I don't really want to slam it in. Is it just a break-in thing?

Insert fully, as in the last 3/16" or half the mag?

You should run into resistance at about 1.5" as the magazine slips by the magazine release catch, then the last 3/16" or so as the rounds are compressed a little as the magazine seats. Other than that, don't know.

As hard as you have to push that last round into the magazine is how hard it will be to insert the fully loaded magazine.


Here is what I would do....

I like to have a minimum of 4 magazines for each pistol I own.
Go to academy and buy at least one extra genuine Ruger magazine and try it to see if it does the same thing.

Some Ruger magazines are made in Italy and some in the US.
They have sent out a few bad magazines in the last couple years.
