According to what I heard today, each agency has a surplus built into their budgets that will allow them to continue operating in the event of a shutdown for a period of time. How long I don’t know.
At the last shutdown, obama would not allow those funds to be used because of political ideology.

This is not really correct. Some agencies like DHS has contingency funds - for example disaster relief funds - not affected by this particular budget crisis. In DoD, overseas contingency operations (OCO) funds are separate and some activities utilizing those (even Stateside TDYs in support of overseas operations) will continue. Soldiers in uniform are required to come in no matter what the budget situation. However, the vast majority of civilian support personnel (moi!) will come in for an orderly transfer of responsibility on Monday then depart from work as soon as practical and will not return until there is a Continuing Resolution (CR) or a budget (fat chance). In short most training and support activities will stop. Some activities, like Morale, Welfare and Recreation will continue because they are funded via non-appropriated funds (i.e. they have to sell stuff/services and make money to stay open). Here at Ft Sill, many people could be idled since this is primarily a training base with a lot of civilian employees.

Wish I was federal employee, I'd happily take a paid vacation.

Some of us will have approved leave cancelled, and since Monday is payroll processing, get to work without getting paid on time (it isn't automatic, but backpay is almost always granted). Worse yet, due to conflicting interpretations on the definition of "essential employee" within different departments in the same agency, some employees may be forced to work without pay or even basic protections such as worker's comp (in my case). So my staff will likely be sequestered to the office doing paperwork. Now what in the wide world of sports is "essential" about that?

The military wasn’t included in my earlier statement, I should have included that caveat.
I can’t remember the name for the excess funds that were being talked about.
Look ahead funds? Something like that. Not for payroll, but to continue operations.

Schumer and the rest of the Dems sickens me. How anyone can believe the liars is beyond me. They want to screw Americans because they don’t get their way about allowing “dreamers” to become citizens. And despite what the lying media says all these kids that were brought over here aren’t saints. I guarantee a big majority don’t want to assimilate. Their own parents broke the law knowingly when they came over here. So do people really think they raised their kids to love America and to respect its laws? I don’t think so. I’m sure there are some good ones, but that doesn’t mean squat. Our citizens come first. Not an illegal. I see a lot of these “dreamers” on their protests holding signs that are in Spanish demanding they be allowed to stay. Now that is assimilation at its finest. We don’t owe these people anything. And your telling me these people were brought over here years ago in many cases yet they haven’t worked towards becoming a citizen? Of course they haven’t. They have been busy enjoying living in our country all the while not paying a dime in taxes. If I were Trump I would back hand Schumer right in his ugly face.

The only "non-essential" .gov functions that will continue are fee for service type functions where fees collected for services rendered allow the function to be performed without utilizing baseline funding streams. In some cases, those functions will only be capable of continuing on the basis of funds already deposited into those accounts funding operations. Once those existing funds dry up, operations will have to cease until non-essential functions resume.

I think it's come to the point that it's obvious that they will lie, cheat, steal, break laws, indict, or do whatever is needed to get their way. They have no morals or respect for the country and our laws unless it happens to suit their agenda. When it becomes an impediment they throw those values in the gutter post haste and do what it takes. And to think that there are people that want to "get along" and "work with" these lying hypocrites, now THAT...is what is beyond me. Polarized? Yep. And I don't see a resolution because I can't figure out a way to debate with someone who blatantly refuses to debate in good faith. Only thing we can do is try to outbreed them. :twocents:
