I spoke with one the ODWC Chiefs on New Years Eve and he said that their plan was to postpone that hunt (wk of 1/7) out one week if the Govt employees were still on furlough. If the furlough continued to the 14th, then those hunters would be allowed to use their draw hunts next year. It sounded like they would do the same for the hunts on 1/23-25, but I doubt it will last that long.

Got a letter from ODWC yesterday in the mail. The hunts for next week will be taking place with or without then end to the furlough/govt shutdown. See you lucky guys next Tuesday at the Wichita Mountains.
Congrats on the hunt! My friends SIL did get his cow yesterday. Trailed blood last night but decided to go back and look this morning. Found her and got her quartered and deboned. They are on their way home.

Post pics if you’re successful. Even if not, tell some stories/experience.

Wonder who is staffing those and opening the refuge? Cuz after today’s meeting ain’t likely the government will reopen before next week!

It’s great they are planning on having them though!

Staffing is coming from the increasing number of previously furloughed employees who are being recalled to work without pay in order to minimize the effects of the shut down that isn’t a shutdown.

I’m going to get political for a second. I’ve got a huge problem with govt employees being “furloughed”, and yet they will receive their pay for that time after the “shutdown” ends. Essentially it’s a paid vacation. They should be working.
It’s the bastards in Congress that shouldn’t be getting a dime.

I won’t disagree. I’m talking about folks who are working and not getting paid in order to prevent folks from feeling the effects of a shutdown, like cancelled hunts.

The hunts are not the reason they are being brought back. It's sad you think so, but spoken like a true government worker.
Since they will be paid, I think everyone in the rest of the country thinks you should be working for your pay even though it may come late.
The infrastructure and maintenance of the facility's is the reason they are being brought back to the workplace, along with the fact they will be paid in the future for the work they are performing in the form of back pay.

I'm really amazed at the bullcrap going on with the food pantries and celebrity chefs gooning for the camera's by making a meal for a group.
When do the same groups open up pantries and celebrity chefs open up food lines for carpenters, pipeline welders, building contractors, refinery contractors, etc that don't have guaranteed jobs with the promise of back pay and permanent jobs? They certainly have gaps between jobs when they have to suck it up and not go out for dinner and cut back for a month or so between jobs.
Where is the outcry for them? Where is the outrage for them and their children and families? Where are the food lines?

Its not exactly a "paid vacation" as many of those employees live check to check (like the rest of America) so they can't really afford to do anything except cutback and survive.

But yea I totally understand your frustration about employees not working and still getting paid! However I try not to take it out on the employees themselves as it isn't their fault, they are just playing the hand our stupid congress/government is giving them.

It wasn’t a paid vacation when a was furloughed about 6 years ago. It was days off, without pay, and it was not paid at a later date.

In 1995 that was the case. I was in an essential position and worked without pay, but was paid after the shutdown. Furloughed employees were given back pay that time.
