Okay I don't know what happened. Been at the same house 3 years same big gray rolling trash bin. All the sudden this summer the freaking thing keeps getting covered in maggots. As soon as city empties it, I clean it and a few days later those little @#$@^!@#$^ are crawling all over again. I tried vinegar, bleach, dish washing soap, simple green, 70% alcohol, ant spray, wasp spray, break cleaner, I am sure I used some other chemicals I had in the garage also in my fury/frustration. One day I set the trash can on fire to my daughters amazement when I was torching those little @#$@#$ with a butane torch.

So someone tell me how to keep those nasty suckers out of the trash can. Today got home can was empty but maggots all over it. I swear there were none on it last night when I rolled it to curb. Anyway I washed it clean today. So I am starting with a clean empty can as of now.

Sounds like somewhere close by you have a fly problem. If that's the case, good luck. Flies will lay their eggs where ever they sense a food source, and garbage cans are like all you can eat buffet to flies. Your best bet is to find something that will trap the flies before they get a chance to lay their eggs. Plus you might spray your yard with some insect killer.

Every time you put something in it you gotta spray it. Also put a seal or gasket on the lid could help. Spraying down the yard won't hurt but flies feed on rotten meat so if it's there you need to make it poisonous or inaccessible. They will then move on towards the neighbors cans but are likely already there too. A way to trap and kill is with a 2 liter bottle. Put some beer or better yet blood in the bottle and hang it by the neck. When a bunch get in cap it and shake the crap out if it. Top off with beer or blood as needed. Adding in some soap will help as well. For fruit flies a little beer or wine in a bottle works. Same thing add some dish soap to it. They get in and can't get out.

Hey that's free chicken food, get ya some chickens they'll be more than happy to feast upon your maggots.. Other than that I can't help a city slicker as we don't have a trash can.. I'll let ya borrow some chickens so long as you return them with weight gain.. LOL..
