Flys can smell a mile away, so you would have to get rid of flys a mile around you in all directions. Best thing I found to trap flys is called fly bags, open it up put water in it, the bait bag will dissolve and makes the foulest smelling crap, but it works flys get in it, but can't get out, once its full close it up and trash it.

I hang one of these near my outside cans . It fills up like crazy and keeps them at Bay from the house and garage

  • Pour boiling water onto your maggots for a simple solution to kill maggots.
  • Sprinkle diatomaceous earth over the maggots to dehydrate them slowly.
  • Flood the maggots with a mixture of water and cinnamon, or basil for a fast solution.
  • Sprinkle lime and salt over affected areas to dehydrate stray maggots.

I use the fly bags as well.....man they fill up quick. Don't leave them out to long or they'll start breeding maggots.
Had maggots show up in my can and sprayed the cans down with Ortho HD. Seems to work.
