Limbsaver SharpShooter Dampener, Does It Work?

A few weeks ago I bought one of these just to see if it would work, I had read that they do work on some internet websites but was just wondering. I figured that for only $10 it was worth a try. They come in two sizes, one for bull barrels and a smaller one for normal barrels.

So I took it out to the range and here's what I found out. First time out I shot at 100 yds with my Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor and here are the results.
1st test, 100 yds, Hornady 140 gr ELD Match, 3/4" with and 1 1/8" without. That's a 33% better.

Next I went out another day and shot at 100 yds with some different ammo. Hornady Black 140 gr BTHP this time. I also tried with a bare barrel and with the sharpshooter only. This time it was 3/4" with both the factory brake and the sharpshooter and 1 1/4" with just the brake (also bare and w/ dampener only).
That's a 40% improvement.

Then I gave it a try at 300 yds which is as far as my local range allows. It was 1 7/8" with it and 2 1/4" without. That's a 16% improvement. My conclusion? It WORKS!

It just occurred to me that I spent over $40 in ammo testing this $10 device!

I see a split in the device but it doesn't seem to un screw into 2 halves ? Do you have to pull the muzzle device and push over the barrel ? Thanks again bro..

OK it's not a split but the parting line from molding it..

There's no split in it, that's just a seam. You push it over the barrel, had to remove the brake of course. They suggest you put it 3/4" from the end of the barrel as a start. That's where I put it. Not sure I want to spend more ammo to see if there's a better spot! Maybe later when I'm reloading and shots aren't $1 each...

I'll get one to try and put it on the 15-22 and see if the results make it look like something other than a 15-22 plus each shot will cost mere pennies..

Good idea! I think I'll try mine on my target 22 I built last year. It's based on the Brownells 10/22 w/ a Shaw bull barrel. Shoots around 1/2 MOA now at 50 yds, maybe this will make it better!
