Well, the volunteers did go to NYC to aid the Coronavirus situation and some Nurses received $100.00 per hour which isn't chicken feed. But I agree, they shouldn't have to pay NYC taxes if they aren't a resident. $100 for 8 hours =$800.00 per day X a forty hour work week (and I'm sure they worked more than forty) but even a forty hour week =$4,000 per week X 4 weeks = $16,000 per month. But they still endangered their lives-some did contact the COvid19 and they shouldn't have to pay New York taxes. That is foolish under the circumstances. Without the volunteers NYC would have been in a real mess.

But that's not volunteering... that's... well, capitalism. It's essentially like contract work, in most cases. It's a dangerous job, yes, but that's why they were making big bucks (so you say, I don't know).

It's not 'volunteering' though.

"Without the volunteers, NYC would have been in a real mess." NYC is/has/and will always be a "mess".
Well, if comrade Cuomo thinks he had budget deficit problems before because people and companies were leaving New York, wait until the population gets a chance to become more mobile again after this. I think people are dying to get out of NYC and New York in total because they are tired of the taxes and living on top of each other already. This will kick that up a notch or two and his budget deficit will drive them into bankruptcy. I expect Chicago will have the same problem.

I think you would be surprised at the "culture" of New Yorkers. They very well like living as they do. Years ago, I had a conversation with a woman that was flying to California to visit an old college friend. She said that she had NEVER been out of New York. I mentioned that with living in Oklahoma, we had traveled almost all of the western states, and I couldn't imagine her situation.

She then informed me that she had a friend in New York that was in her late 70's or early 80's that had NEVER been out of her borough.

I agree, I had lot of classmates in school who loved New York, felt it was the greatest city in the world and had no interest of desire to learn about anywhere else - and found it hard to believe there was any reason whatsoever to live anywhere BUT NYC.

In fact, several of them really believed we still had mostly outhouses, lived on the prairie and drove either rusted out pickups or only rode horses. Seriously... they honestly and truly thought most of us didn't even have indoor plumbing yet out in "Okiehoma".

Well, that's not fair. I grew up in North Texas and we had an indoor bathroom before I was 10.

I... uh... did ride horses a bit. My first year in in FFA, I sold magazines to the neighbors on horseback.

Beats a bicycle. Didn't have to pedal 'em. ;)

To add to your description of the "expectations" of those back east, I had a cousin that used to be a toll booth person on the Will Rogers Turnpike, right at the Oklahoma line. Some of those people would come through his booth and ask if the Indians were on the warpath.
