It is pine "log siding' 2X8 that were milled to look like logs that lap together. Something that Fox building Supply has.

I’ve built two similar cabins for rent income. The first one that was built is about 20 years old, and I used the pine split log siding. It’s been my experience that the pine does not hold up well when exposed to direct sunlight. Three sides of the cabin are shaded most of the day, but the back is exposed to the morning sun. I re-stain/seal about every 2 years, but I’ve had to replace several of the “logs” on that backside. It looks like yours is mostly shaded which will definitely help prolong the life. The second cabin has cedar lap and gap siding and it is exposed to sunlight pretty much all day. It’s about 10 years old now, and the cedar is definitely holding up better.

You have a very nice looking cabin, and it definitely looks like it was built right! I just wanted to let you know about my experience with the split log siding. Hope you get many years of enjoyment with it!

You guys building log cabins need a wrap around porch all the way around is best. Will extend the life of the logs by decades.

Wife and I (son and son-in-law helped too) built this on our 80 acre hideout…. for when SHTF. Serves as a really nice hunting base as well. No plans just started nailing boards together.

Thanks. Yes the back has more sun exposure. I have oil stained the whole thing twice but I see it probably needs it again. I took down several trees on the south to make room for a solar power system. Sounds like that may work against me.

2018 my 32x20 wood deck caught fire and was totally destroyed. I spent most of the Spring and summer replacing it with a steel & composite 40x20.I don't seem to have a photo of it complete. Built Back Better!

My son made this lamp for my birthday a couple weeks back
