Way cool. Sounds like an awful situation for the family and REAL people stepped up. Good for you guys.

On a side note, being from Kommiefornia and suburbia, but spending 3 years in Stillwater, those combines and other huge farm equipment have fascinated me for a long time.
Come out this June and drive one.

Couple things. I don't remeber this thread or my post and when I went directly to what I posted from the notification I still couldn't figure it out. Reread the thread and what a cool thing to see people do for others.

As far as driving one or whatever. Would be fantastic! Shoot, I'd be happy just having someone knowledgeable about those combines and other large ag machines jsut walk me around them showing me how they work from front to back and the processes they perform. Ya know, I do own a 25hp Kubota L2501 so I'm nearly an expert now. If you can remember shoot me a pm and maybe I can help out for a day and gain some knowledge.

Join the maintenance crew on one of the combines. You will learn a whole lot more about them vs being a driver.
Seriously, they are pretty amazing machines.
I've only piloted the old gleaners and such, never one of the new ones with GPS and Satellite imagery.

I'm still wondering how a combine working with GPS and satellite imagery keeps from putting a header into the ground on uneven ground.

Sorry, but if I were doing it again today, I'd have to insist on being in total control.

I agree. Heck, I don’t even use cruise control on my truck.

Oh, I will use cruise control, but more to keep the lead foot from taking over.

On the other hand, lane assist and "adaptive braking" doesn't get used. Our newest Ford Expedition Max is loaded with some of that stuff, but a good part is either turned off or ignored.

All that said, the Expedition is equipped with cameras all around, and when backing it activates an interactive image on the big screen that shows just how close to parking lines and obstruction (front or back) to help me get that long thing into the parking space. That feature I will gladly use.
