Been there, done that, still have a few t-shirts.
The first boat I served on was the same class as the USS Thresher (SSN-593). The loss of the Thresher and "lessons learned" was part of our training and culture.
As I posted earlier, it is my opinion that the vessel suffered a catastrophic implosion instantaneously killing the occupants and the force of the implosion would have shredded the submersible and scattered it like so much confetti across the sea floor.

The implosive breach of the pressure hull would have resulted an instantaneous diesel effect inside the craft, incinerating and nearly simultaneously crushing the occupants. While it seems a particularly grizzly way to die they wouldn't have had a chance to say WTF?
Not a submariner, unless you count the ride at Disneyland back in the '60's. Have done crash and accident photography for autos and high-performance aircraft. Implosion would be crushing their bones among all the other damages. Including their skulls. Not exactly painless but very quick.

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of an ill-made tub
That started out from Newfoundland
Aboard this tiny sub.

The CEO was a woke dip ****,
Designers young and clowns.
Five passengers set sail that day
They all were crushed and drowned, all crushed and drowned

The pressure started getting rough,
The logitech was tossed,
They cheaped out on the small window
it would have increased cost, it would have increased cost.

The ship set ground on the floor of this James Cameron movie set
With the CEO
The femboy too,
The fat Paki and his son,
Five billionaires
No oxygen, sealed in
Here on the OceanGate Sub!

Here, but occasionally There.
Crammed into an inescapable tiny enclosure with 5 people sinking into the depths of the ocean sounds like a nightmare to me. Even before the accident.

I saw a video where a guy who had been in it said that it was very uncomfortable, there are no seats, you basically just sit on the floor and it is small like a minivan. He said they had some malfunctions and issues on his trip and he did not feel like it was very safe. There’s only one of these submarines, it’s a custom build by a billionaire, for billionaires. I wouldn’t trust it..

But considering the ticket costs more than I paid for my house, I don’t think I’ll have to worry about ever going lol.

More on the submersible. Watch the video.

Squished like a vacuum sealed marshmallow.

.

i suspect you're correct with this assessment. If it was a loss of power or some other situation and they surfaced, they would have probably been found by now. I suspect it was metal fatigue, going 2.5 miles down to the titanic and back, one tiny crack at that depth(3/4 the way to the Titanic, almost 2 miles) and you'll be vaporized instantly. Fortunately, short of being found floating on the surface in the next ~40 hours, that's the best case scenario. Didn't even have time to know what was happening before it was all over. nearly instantaneous.

worst case scenario is sitting on the buttom of the ocean with no way back up, freezing as your oxygen slowly bleeds out. Second worst would be floating on the surface...with no oxygen.

If they're sitting on the bottom, realistically there's nothing we can do to save them at this point.

Hate to say it, but 85-90% chance they're dead by now, if not more. in my mind anyway.

If the submarine is still intact on the buttom of the ocean, i wonder how well preserved their corpses would be.

This would be one unpleasant end. I still don't understand how we could lose, as in not be able to find, the sub in 2023. Admittedly, my experience with subs in 2.5 mi deep ocean is limited.

It's pretty simple, in my mind...the Ocean is vast. the area of search is the size of Ireland. Water is a very good absorber, so you can't really communicate at that depth. the only way would be a physical line. If it's surfaced, it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. It's a white/blue vessel the size of a minivan floating somewhere in a vast, featureless ocean the size of Ireland. or alternatively, sitting lower in the ocean than very few vessels are capable of going...there's a reason it cost 250k to go down there...

I was reading the story. "relies on text-messages sent from its support ship for navigation." If they've lots communication. Thats a pretty clear sign of bad things.

If the sub is just sitting on the bottom, only one of them would have a chance of rescue once their situation is realized. It will be whomever manages to kill all his fellow passengers to extend the oxygen duration by a factor of about 4. Morbid, yes.

Whatever you do, make sure you are straight with the Lord.

heh that's a great idea, though personally i think the expenditure of oxygen in the life or death struggle would probably make the situation worse. also, if you think you're gonna kill 3 other people in Close Quarters Combat without getting ****ed up yourself, that's pretty generous for the average person. killing people with your bare hands is pretty difficult iirc.

I think it only takes the sub about two hours to descend to the Titanic. There is some chatter about whether the view port was ever meant to be used at that depth.
By golly, you are right! I searched and found this: travelThe missing Titanic submersible: what it’s like diving in the ...

It takes the mini-sub about two and a half hours to reach the ocean floor, and the team can spend as long as four hours surveying the shipwreck before starting the ascent to the surface.
