Gotta clarify, this isn't about bad-mouthing the .gov. It specifically states harassment and threats - last time I checked, those were already illegal acts.

That is correct....maybe,..they want to make it so snowflakes, sjw, maybe you did not see which 57 genders you were talking to, and you hurt it's feelings... or any other lower standard of words ...think affirmative action in words speak Owellen style ...they...it...can say you scared them, which is so much more dangerous in the democrats eyes....Saying Merry Christmas ...might trigger one.

Precisely. In my opinion, I think when they add new laws such as this one they are really cheapening the existing laws essentially saying the same thing thus creating confusion and tempers to flair. Hmmm, isn't that the left's ultimate goal?

From the actual bill:

§ 18.2-152.7:1. Harassment by computer; penalty.

If any person, with the intent to coerce, intimidate, or harass any person, shall use a computer or computer network to communicate obscene, vulgar, profane, lewd, lascivious, or indecent language, or make any suggestion or proposal of an obscene nature, or threaten any illegal or immoral act, he shall be is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. A violation of this section may be prosecuted in the jurisdiction in which the communication was made or received or in the City of Richmond if the person subjected to the act is one of the following officials or employees of the Commonwealth: the Governor, Governor-elect, Lieutenant Governor, Lieutenant Governor-elect, Attorney General, or Attorney General-elect, a member or employee of the General Assembly, a justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia, or a judge of the Court of Appeals of Virginia.

Looks like I'm not headed to Virginia anytime soon.

That Bill covers a wide spectrum of things one cannot do with a computer....from what I read. So maybe one can telephone or send a letter? Seriously, never put anything in writing you don't want someone else to see. That goes for one the job, home or anywhere. I've seen people get hurt by writing things they wanted to keep on the low down.

I believe the intent with this bill is not to make already illegal acts illegaler, but to redefine actual political speech as "harassment and threats".

I get that politicians don't like being called names or told to go fornicate themselves, but that is the literal essence of protected political speech. What they want is an echo chamber where their unconstitutional acts can't be vociferously or stridently questioned. In other words, they can do whatever they please and the most you can do abut it is be polite and respectful to them in return.

Eff that... :censored:
