Besides just about anything with John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, or Humphrey Bogart, I'll list a favorite from each decade from the 30s through the 60s...

Mr. Smith Goes To Washington (1939)

His Girl Friday (1942)

Vertigo (1958)

Lawrence of Arabia (1962)

Hmmm, wasn't aware of a re-make!

Oops, sorry it never got made.

"There were plans to remake it again as a movie in 1990, with Sean Connery and Michelle Pfeiffer, just after the pair made The Russia House. However, when that movie failed at the box office, the plans were cancelled."

One of my all-time favorites is a 1956 sci-fi flick called World Without End. It tells of the first US flight to Mars in 1957 and upon their return they crash-land on an unknow planet. Admittedly cheesy special effects but a good movie nevertheless.
