I am new to 17HMR. Are split necks common on new ammo?
I bought two 50 round boxes of Hornady 17gr V-Max ammo.
One box had four split necks, the other had two.
What would you do? Contact Hornady? Take them back to the store I bought them?
Or should I just shoot the remaining 94 rounds and not worry about the bad six?
Any suggestions.

Thanks!

1 - I've never seen it with 17HMR

2 - It's probably not worth the gas money or time and effort to return it. It's a low pressure round and shooting from a bolt gun the possibility of it blowing up in your face is nihl.

Yup I am sure. This is unfired ammo. Brand new right out of the package.
Both rifle and ammo are marked 17 HMR. I am aware of the 17HM2 round and made sure I did not pick it up by mistake.
Should have done more research. Googled 17HMR split necks and found several threads about it.
Seems that CCI manufactures most of this ammo under different brand names, even Hornady, odd because they have the name rights to the round.
Looks like adding a neck to a thin walled rimfire round is not such a good idea.
Others have found the same as me. Contacted Hornady. We will see what they say.
