Well, I'm fortunate in that I'm not deaf. However, it's almost impossible for me to take part in conversations without some really good hearing aids. Even then, it's iffy. Went to a Mexican food restaurant in Gainesville with a group last night and spent most of the evening smiling and nodding. My wife had to tell me what was discussed after we got home.
My hearing aids allow me to talk with one or two people fairly well, but more than that, or if there's a TV or radio going, it gets difficult.
