And to think jimmy Carter wanted to scrap the B1. It sure has been useful in these years since he went back to growing peanuts.

Was the B-1 the one with leaky fuel tanks or was that the B-2?

Also funny that the B-1 and B-2 will be retired before the B-52. Tells you how well they built things back then.

I have seen the BONE several times at airshows. Once at Paige, the BONE flew over us in a fast pass and was creating the telltale vapor cone of the sound barrier around the fuselage. The announcer said, "There is a special treat folks, he's not supposed to do that." and never explained further.

He never broke it, but he came damn close.

They where problematic in the early years with engine intake issues

Currently they are even more problematic and expensive to maintain but they are still cool as hell

Back in 1991 I was standing on the wall of Bent's Old Fort outside La Junta Colorado.
I was admiring the view of the Fort and it's layout trying to imagine what it was like back in the mid 1800's, kinda lost in a daydream.

Suddenly a Bone buzzed the fort at a pretty low level.
Flew right over the top of me.
It was a moment that I'll always remember.
A cool mix of old and new.
