Went back today, not a bite. Scooted around the lake a bit until the winds died down enough to hit the dam. Landed about thirty half to one pound largemouth on plastics. Fun little fighters, got to watch several attack at the boat

Cool!
I was at the lake earlier this month and got checked by the GW. After taking care of business, and visiting a little I was casually casting from the bank and caught a Kentucky.
About 10" long, so I tossed it back.

He told me that the Ponca Lake is over loaded with them, and the length limit on large mouth does not apply.

Take them home and eat them was his advice. I did notice it had a different mouth than a large mouth. The jaw line was directly below the eye. Large mouth have a jaw line behind the eye.

You probably already know this, but thought I'd pass it along if others are fishing Ponca, and can help manage the bass population.

Been catching our crappie in the cove with the docks and golf course bridge.

Easiest way to tell a spot from a largemouth is the tongue.

A spot's tongue is rough. A largemouth has a slick tongue.

Sometimes it's hard to tell from the jaw depending on size. If in doubt, feel the tongue. The spot's tongue never lies.
