America before 1913 and income taxes still managed to have public schools, colleges, roads, a strong military and innovation. I think we should go back to that concept. If congress cant figure out how to pay for something without snatching money from every working stiff in the nation, then they don't need it after all.

Section 16 in every township in Oklahoma was school land. Any income they could get from it went to that township's school system.

And that sentence just discredited the entire thing.

You are 100% correct there. We are a morally bankrupt nation, and following that fiscally as well. If we had the morals of 70 yrs ago, many other things would resolve themselves.

Also on the food issue too. Food as a whole as gotten much worse since the 1950's. Not in terms of taste, but health: modern hybridization has mutated our foods into stuff our grandparents would hardly recognize. We have seen the rise of things like high-fructose corn syrup and other artificial additives to food. The net result - soaring obesity, diabetes, and dozens of other dietary related health issues.

I still don't understand how making "rich people" pay 91% in taxes is them paying their fair share. "Fair" to me would imply everyone pays the same rate or even the same exact amount.

Please don't muddle the discussion with rationality. Nobody here wants to hear such nonsense.

I guess fair means to each according to his needs and from each according to his abilities. We are all really the same aren't we?

Kinda like socialism, huh?

I'll tell you this... you raise my taxes significantly, I will cut back to drop into the lower tax bracket. It would be more profitable in the longrun dollar for dollar, and also I am not going to bust my ass even more for the privilege of paying even more to supply the .gov's addiction to spending and expansion. I don't think I am alone in that sentiment. And I can certainly make it through on less.

If you think I'm the only one, or there are only a very few of us, then by all means - tax, tax, and tax some more. And when it gets bad enough, I'll find somewhere else to live and work.

I don't understand how you make more money by making less money? That's not how marginal tax rates work (in general).
