You know on a serious note the TP in a mason jar is not a bad idea.
If you have ever had an old roll of TP you will know it had degraded or became a bit more dusty.. Air tight storage should eliminate some of this.

Honest question - why is gold or silver worth anything in a SHTF scenario?

This... it never has been a replacement for our current currency so what makes anyone think it will ever?
Gold is to volatile, sell it and get into a good SP500 mutual fund group.

That's why an ounce of lead is worth more than Gold when/if that situation ever occurs.

Think about Syria. The city's have been bombed into oblivion. SHTF is happening there right now. What would you use? Lead or Gold?

Yep. My thoughts as well. Maybe it's a good hedge against inflation but it's not worth crap in a SHTF situation.

Well, there are definitely different types of disasters to worry about.
Ice storms, tornadoes, blackouts, flooding, civil unrest, financial system collapse, disease, famine, pestilence, etc.

It's something we deal with in our IT DR plans, to try to make responses proportionate to the disaster at hand.
